AI Fluency Training for Small Businesses

AI Fluency Training for Small Business Teams

The free courses taught your team what AI is. We teach them how to use it every day.

Anthropic, the SBA, and the US Chamber of Commerce all offer free AI fluency training. They’re good. They cover the concepts. But if your team took one — or three — and still isn’t using AI in their actual work, the course isn’t the problem. A 45-minute video doesn’t change a habit. A 90-minute working session does. Our AI workshop for small businesses is built for non-technical teams using ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini on real tasks.

The gap nobody talks about

Why AI fluency stalls after the course

Your team knows what AI can do. They don’t know how to make it work for their job.

There’s a specific wall most teams hit after basic AI training. They’ve watched the demos. They’ve tried ChatGPT. They got a few interesting outputs and a few useless ones — and now they’re not sure when to use it, how to phrase what they want, or whether what comes out is actually good enough to use. That wall has a name: the gap between AI awareness and AI fluency.

Awareness

Knowing the tool exists

You’ve heard about it. You’ve seen the demos. You can describe what it does in a meeting. But when an actual task hits your desk, you default back to the way you’ve always done it.

Fluency

Picking it up automatically

Reaching for AI when you hit a familiar problem — the same way you’d open a spreadsheet or search Google — because you’ve practiced enough that the reflex is there.

That reflex doesn’t come from a video. It comes from doing the thing, badly, until it clicks. We run the session that gets your team there.

How we build AI fluency

A 90-minute working session, built around your team’s actual work.

No generic demos. No AI trends slide deck. We teach the SMART prompting framework — a five-step method your team can use on any task, any tool, any day — and then we practice it live, on real tasks from their actual job.

S Set
Set the context the AI needs to work in.
M Make
Make the role you want the AI to play clear.
A Architect
Architect the output shape and format.
R Refine
Refine the constraints and what to avoid.
T Tighten
Tighten the tone for your audience.

By the end of the session, every person in the room has used AI to do something useful. Not something contrived. Something from their own to-do list. That’s the difference between AI awareness and AI fluency: one person watched someone else do it, the other person did it themselves.

What participants walk away with
  • The SMART framework on paper — a reference they can use the next morning
  • 2–3 specific use cases they built during the session, in their own words, for their own role
  • A shared team language around AI — so the people already using it and the people who aren’t can finally talk about it the same way
  • Confidence that the tool is something they use, not something they’re still figuring out
Who it’s for

Non-technical teams who need AI to be practical — not theoretical.

Marketing teams. Operations staff. Nonprofit program directors. Service business owners and their teams. Anybody whose job involves words, decisions, or client communication — which is most jobs.

This session fits you if

  • Your team has access to AI tools but uses them inconsistently or rarely
  • A few people are quietly using ChatGPT on their phones but nobody’s been shown how to use it well
  • You want a shared standard for how AI gets used across your organization — not just whoever figured it out on their own
  • You’ve done a free online course and your team still isn’t using anything differently

It probably isn’t right for you if

  • You’re looking for a software training (this isn’t about which tools to buy)
  • You want an AI strategy — for that, start with an AI Audit
  • You need automations built — that’s our AI Automations service
The free course question

What about the free courses?

Anthropic’s free AI fluency course is good. It’s also not the same thing.

Anthropic, Google, and the SBA have all released free AI fluency training for small businesses in 2026. If your team hasn’t gone through one, they should — the concepts are solid and the price is right. But a self-paced video course and a live working session solve different problems.

Free online courses Digismart workshop
Format Self-paced video Live working session, in-person or Zoom
Question it answers What is AI and what can it do? How does my specific team, doing our specific work, use this tool — starting tomorrow?
Content Generic examples, broadly applicable Built around your team’s actual tasks, sent in via intake form beforehand
Practice Watching demonstrations 50–70% hands-on — your team is doing the prompting, not us
Feedback loop None — you’re alone with the video Live facilitator adjusting in real time as your team gets stuck
Outcome Awareness — vocabulary, concepts, possibilities Fluency — a habit your team can carry into Monday’s work

The teams that get the most out of our workshop are often the ones who’ve already done the free course. They come in knowing the vocabulary. We come in knowing how to turn vocabulary into a working habit.

What comes after fluency

Most teams do one session, then come back 6–12 months later to go further.

The workshop is designed to stand alone. Your team can leave, use what they learned, and never need anything else from us. That happens. But once the team is actually using AI, the question shifts from “how do we use this?” to “where should we be building systems?”

Audit

Once AI is in daily use, map where automation saves real hours and money. A 3-week deep dive with cost and timeline for each opportunity.

When it pays off

You don’t have to do all three. A lot of clients stop at step one and that’s the right call for their situation. If you want to know which step fits where you are, the free 30-min call will tell you.

Common questions

Honest answers

Is this the same as the free Anthropic or SBA AI course?

No. Those are self-paced video courses covering AI concepts and tools — good for building awareness. Our session is a live, hands-on working session where your team practices using AI on their actual tasks, with a facilitator in the room (or on Zoom) adjusting in real time. Different format, different outcome.

How long is it and what does it cost?

90 minutes, flat fee. For businesses and organizations, it starts at $1,250. Nonprofits typically pay $950. We’ll quote you exactly on the free 30-min call based on your team size and format. No surprises.

Do we need any AI tools or subscriptions before the session?

Just a laptop and access to one AI tool — ChatGPT free is fine. We’ll send a short intake form beforehand so the examples we use come from your world, not ours.

What’s the SMART framework?

It’s a five-step method for structuring prompts so you get useful outputs on the first try instead of after four rounds of back-and-forth: Set the context, Make the role clear, Architect the output, Refine the constraints, Tighten the tone. We teach it during the session and everyone leaves with it on paper.

Can you run this for a specific department — just marketing, just ops?

Yes. The format stays the same but the examples and hands-on exercise are shaped around that team’s actual work. Tell us during the intake call and we’ll tailor accordingly.

We had an IT vendor run an “AI training” already. How is this different?

IT-led sessions usually cover tool access, security, and what’s approved — important, but not the same as teaching people how to get useful work out of AI. This session picks up where that one ends.
